I have an acer ast180 w/ vista .How do I know if the power supply currently is a propriety supply or universal?I want to install a pcie card.But my psu is only 250w.Also could I put an put pci card instead of pci e?

Looks universal. The PSU pulled out from a new ast180 that I know of is a Delta Electronics DPS-250AB that is a standard 12V ATX power supply.
Do not use a PCI graphics card, it is SLOW in games. PCIe cards are fast. Some options:
Cheap: 8400GS, 8500GT, HD2400 Pro
Better: HD2600XT, 8600GTS
