Hamilton admitted pressing the green "N" button which kicked his vehicle into nuetral during the race...and ON BOARD video confirms it. Question: Why does McLaren insist on trying to cover this??? What's the big deal?

Here's their (McLaren's) responses in the media:

A McLaren spokeswoman elaborated: "It was due to a default in the gearbox that selected neutral for a period of time.

"It was not as a result of Lewis pressing an incorrect button on his steering wheel," she added.

McLaren chief executive Martin Whitmarsh explained: "It would appear that the barrels that change gear went out of control - and out of control of the driver - and that's probably hydraulic."

Redbull...???...the Video wouldn't hold up in court? It shows Hami pressing the green button with a white "N" on it...I believe the "N" would stand for Neutral, no???

Also- Hey all, don't get me wrong...I'm NOT picking on Hami here. I like the guy for the most part, and actually have more respect for him for his honesty. I'm just floored by McL's reaction...especially when there's already a dis-trust of Big Corporations in this day & time.

OK, thanks again, for ALL your input.

YEs the video is there, but why isnt anyone analysing it. Someone from F1 should know what that button is used for. Even if the source is froma dodgy source, explain the video!

Mclaren are just protecting their driver, you know how the media will go about writing "Hamilton loses focus under pressure, presses the eject button" ;o)
----------------------
Why doesnt Mclaren comment on the video itself. Let them explain what that button was? Soon after he hits it, he is going slow. It sure wasnt a button that drops down the gears from 6th to 2nd(like schumacher had on his ferrari IIRC). Because the corner he is going into, it looks like the 'descida do lago' which is a 4th gear corner.

And secondly he starts to upshift right at the moment he hit the button. Then seeing that he is slowing down he frantically changes gears.

Did he intend to hit another button but ended up hitting the neutral? I think so.

Well I don't know really. Lately McLaren have been doing things with no reason and are just bizarre and out of the question. They do this and state otherwise. They say their not trying to do this and yet what they are doing clearly implicates the denied (like the BMW and Williams fuel thing). Their action are so erratic just like Hamilton's driving behind the Safety Car in Fuji. Besides, The videos showing Hamilton pressing the N button have been pulled by the Formula One management. Even a 15 second video gets pulled, wow see how mean Bernie is. Even Disney lets you keep videos of concerts on YouTube. I wonder who's the rat who keeps on reporting the videos to the management?

For all the nasty things said about Hamilton, he's a great driver. But he had his luck in the first part of the season while Kimi was having torrid time, so if any one was gonna run in to bad luck or mistakes Hamilton was the most probable (He was always lucky earlier even with safety car situations).
Mclaren tried to cover up the spy gate till Alonso threatened, and who knows they had some illegal gadget that they didn't want any one to see. So they went down silently saying it was a technical glitch.

Just a point to Rockford.....there are loads of videos removed from youtube.....F1 or otherwise, I certainly wouldn't suggest this is proof of a cover up.
While yes, Hamilton did admit pressing the button, the video doesn't really prove anything as far as I can see. You certainly can't see what colour the button is or what is written on it.....not on the video I saw anyway.
It's not like it was slip of the finger either, when he pressed the button it looked like he did intend to press it for one reason or another.
Does it matter whose side of the story you believe? Hamilton admits a mistake, Mclaren say otherwise, F1 is full of such situations. He won't be the first to make a silly mistake and he certainly won't be the last.

The picture that they made out of this guy is so briliant that they do not want to lose it. They pictured him as a better driver than Schumacher.
How did they come up with such an image?

Who is this Hamilton of whom they are speaking?
They all have forgotten about Kimi and Fernando, and put this Hamilton on top of the peak of the mountain, where he does not deserve to be!

The article stating that he admitted to messing up, came from a dodgy source, none of that would hold up in court...

I'll see if i can take another look. But we really don't know what any of those buttons do, and N could stand for a whole bunch of other things.

Rockford, a lot of F1 vids get pulled of youtube. I recently put one up that got pulled after less than three days...

Here is a cover up for you. I went to view the video myself on u-tube and I get this message:

"This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Formula One Management"

hmmm...I can view all other F1 videos on u-tube except when Hamilton makes a mistake

this is because they don't want Hamilton's fame to go down. people look up to Hamilton as the best rookie and possibly best driver. if they admit it was Hamilton's fault then Hamilton will be seen as a choker who was pressured during the last race. yes he is a choker and he admitted it although he didn't exactly say he was pressured. everyone knows he failed because of pressure, it's just that mclaren wants to tell the world that it wasn't his fault to maintain his "greatness".
