Why does the FCC have to reverse every darn portion of a song with coarse language?

Are they afraid of young children hearing the language and then them using it?
Is it censorship?
Example: S*** becomes "ish" on the radio.
What do you think of it?
Are the FCC afraid of free speech?
What?

I think it's silly to have songs edited in that way. Not only does it make the songs not make any sense, but it's painfully obvious what is being said, regardless of the change. I'll never forget when I first saw Beck's video for "Lost Cause" on MTV2; they actually took out the word "guns" from the line "Waving your guns at somebody new".

Yeah, it's all silly. If we're really that worried about kids being exposed to such language, then parents should simply not turn on the radio or tv when their children are at home. It won't stop kids from hearing "bad words", but then maybe the FCC would have to find something else to blame.

The country is becoming more and more conservative. Back in the 70s and 80s and even 90s there was no censorship or not as much because not as many swears, so the occassional s**t f**k or w/e got by. But since the popularity of gangsta rap where about half of the words are swears, radios edit the song to incoherence. Not only do they edit f**k and s**t but also drugs, gun, god damn, etc. its completely ridiculous and MTV and clear channel have destroyed everything that was great about music. As independent radio stations are being bought out by corporations, interest groups who are either conservative or politically correct can much more easily put pressure on a big corp than an independently owned station. I think any rap song sucks if I hear it on the radio so ill just download the real song off the internet. F**k the Conservative C*nts FCC

Yeah, that's the exact reason, they don't want young children to hear and then start using it, parents don't want that either. If you don't like it, then listen to explicit CD's or MP3's.

They still follow the rules of the 50's era...s-ck, b-tch and a-s are now allowed, but f-ck and sh-it are still off limits...change is slow, but they sure allow sex and violence a hell of alot more nowadays...boring, yawn.
