I always sneak it... or just make them take it.
I understand all the gentle parenting methods out there, and I mostly agree and practice them.
However... when it comes to something like medication... I just thin we need to be creative, and make sure they know who really is the boss!!
Even if you have to resort to bribery... or sneaking it into his mouth while he's zoned out to a TV show... I have blown in my daughter's face to make her open her mouth.
At 13 months, he's just being stubborn and showing his independence... which developmentally is great. but for this one thing, you need to win the fight - he may refuse, but you're bigger, you win.
If he gets so upset that he vomits it back up... ask the pharmacist about redosing afterwards, or ask if he can get a little extra in the bottle incase you accidentally spill it while trying to give it to him. Also ask about alternative forms of it. Sometimes they come in different flavors or possible chewable tablets or ask if you can mix it with just a small spoonful of yogurt or applesauce - I understand the empty stomach thing, but perhaps one table spoon of apple sauce does not count as a full stomach!

Mix it with a little juice. Also, when you use the syringe you need to squirt it into the baby's cheek, not the back of the throat because that might be causing him to vomit. I also told my daughter that medicine was candy and she loves it. Before she could understand my words, I was always happy when I gave her medicine and always said yum and pretending I wanted some. It worked.

It wont hurt to mix it with a little bit of something that he really likes to eat. Its better than making him vomit and he gets none of the meds. Or you could try forcing it down him by laying him on the floor and putting your legs over his arms, head between your legs and give him just a little at a time. Good Luck!!!

Sounds mean, but we had to hold his hands down and put the syringe between his upper and lower teeth and squirt the meds in his cheek. Keep the syringe between his teeth until all is swallowed. It worked every time.

before you are giving the baby the meds. talk calmly, always remain calm and soothing, no matter how frustrating it is. The baby feels the stress. Maybe try it in a spoon, talk soothing and rewarding afterwards. If he vomits he may just be scared or really gag. be patient, keep trying, be creative, maybe put it in a small bottle if he still drinks out of a bottle. Holding him down and restraining him, may scare him.

Call the pharmacy and ask if it can be put in just a little juice, milk or water.
