I had a 2001 ML with a family pack - so you can get a seven seater.

Well, if you want a 7 seater that is 3-4 years old, it won't be an ML. The ML from those years was exclusively a 5 seater.

Mercedes didn't make a 7 seater until about 2 years ago. The new GL seats 7, as does the minivan RL.

If you want 7 seats from Europe from that period and don't want a wagon, you will have to leave German vehicles. They were late to the game with the 7 seat SUV craze, and only recently offered this option.

You can probably get a Volvo XC90 or Land Rover Discovery from this period that offer 7 seats.

Ask these guys:

Older ML's were dreadful in terms of build quality & reliabilty but there was a point a few years back when they got better.

Do not bother with manual, go for auto. Full MB service history essential to keep the 30 year MobiloLife warranty on bodywork.

Consider getting an MB Service Plus contract. Extends full MB warranty out to 6 years and includes all service & repair costs other than tyres.

Check out Top Gear's customer satisfaction survey before you buy. Don't bother looking at the top where you might expect a Mercedes to be, it's down in the bottom 10 with all the Peugeots and Citroens!

these are expensive to purchase and maintain with marginal off road capabilities and poor handling when temp spare is installed [also usless off road] the worst one ive had to deal with was a ml 500 that backfired and blew the intake manifold apart[very thin casting out of questionable material]
in any event it cost customer 5000 us dollars to get back on the road [yes the parts are that high] labor was just under a grand.
good luck if you buy one of these you will need it
