It was the 1919 white sox that was in the span when they had the best of nine series...it was the Black Sox yr, and the Pale Hose lost to the Reds in 8 5-3. Shoeless Joe jackson batted .375 and was one of the famous 8 men out when the gamboing was discovered

I am not so sure of what team it was or who the best player on the team but I do know that back in the early 1900's that the series was a best of 9 games, at least that is what I was taught when I began learning about sports in general and I would guess it might have been the red sox or a team like that and possibly Babe Ruth... who knows for sure I bet you do but I do believe that is a good question and I would love to know the answer as well.!! Also in 1912 the new york giants won game 7 and lost to the red sox in the 8th game...

The 1919 World Series matched the American League champion Chicago White Sox against the National League champion Cincinnati Reds. Although most World Series' were of the best-of-seven format, the 1919 World Series was a best-of-nine-games series (along with 1903, 1920, and 1921. Partly to increase the popularity of the sport and also increase revenue, baseball decided to try the best-of-nine game format.
The events of the series are often associated with the Black Sox Scandal, when several members of the Chicago franchise conspired with gamblers to throw World Series games. The 1919 World Series was the last World Series to take place without a Commissioner of Baseball in place. In 1920, the various franchise owners installed Kenesaw Mountain Landis as the first "Commissioner of Baseball."

The 1919 Chicago White Sox, who didn't really try very hard in several of the other games in that Series. The Cincinnati Reds triumphed, 5-3, in one of the few times the 5-of-9 format was used.
Joe Jackson remains the best-known player from that sordid team, mainly because he was a great hitter, partly because of his too-cute nickname which I won't include here.
It also happened in 1912 -- lose Game 7 and still win, that is, not the sorry shenanigans of the Black Sox.

This question makes no sense. If you play a game 7, the series is tied 3-3 and the team that wins, wins the series.

You can't win game 7 and lose the series. It is best of four. So to win game 7 you win the series.
