There isn't any difference other than the buyers that they are marketed toward - they both have the same protection ratings, usually have insulation and ventilation features, and are made by the same companies.

I ski and ride in the same helmet (a Giro Fuse) - I love it for it's built-in speakers and single lever ventilation adjustment.

I think you will find differences within certain types of ski helmets more than you will find differences between between a basic ski helmet and a basic snowboard helmet. The main things to thing to consider are what you are going to be doing on the slopes and how does the helmet fit? A ski racing helmet is going to be constructed differently than a basic ski helmet and some snowboard helmets are probably going to have more padding if they are used for things like half pipe. Proper fit and making sure that your helmet does not impair your visibility should be a priorities over fashion. All that being said, I both ski and snowboard (ski more than snowboard) and wear a snowboard helmet for both. It just had the best fit and options for me.
