Yes and No.

Yes because it sets guidelines for people to follow. We'd have a lot of depressed and lost people in the world without religion. Plus how many 'born again' cases of 'bad' people have you heard? I've honestly met a load of people who say that they'd be out on the streets if they hadn't found God. Plus without religion there would no morals, no defining barrier behind right and wrong, the world would run amok, because people wouldn't know where to draw the line.

No because as people have said, the religious wars that have been fought could have been avoided. We wouldn't have terrorism in the same form it takes today, which could potentially be a good thing.

But i guess we'll never know.

No, it would not. But it would be a better place if people did not do bad things in the name of religion (IE - killing, terrorizing other people, hurting other people, etc.).

Beyond that, though, religion is extremely important in most people's lives.

So, as I just got through saying, this world would not be a better place without religion.

Religion isn't the problem. It's the "Nutters" who want to kill
anybody that doesn't agree with their version of it.

In Russia, under Communist rule, religion was frowned upon
by the authorities and appeared to have died. Today it has once again become popular, with people who have tried life
with and without religion.!!

It worries me when political leaders try to ban all religion, as it
usually means, they are classing themselves as god.

Having a self- appointed Prime Minister is bad enough,
without having a self appointed political god.

Religion will never be confined to places of worship. it spreads a dark cloud across the world which consists of terrorism, extinction of races through ethnic cleansing and so forth. There are many reasons why countries of the globe go to war, fight & kill and religion is only one of them. They would only find some other reason to kill & fight wars. So you may as well keep religion

Its folks who use Religion as an excuse to further their own selfish & political gains that give Religion a bad name.

i'd suggest you make the difference b/w Religion & Spirituality...theres a world of difference and our sad, crazy world would be a better place for it!

All societies have had their rituals and beliefs and respectful observances.

However, ONLY when "believers" become extreme and fanatical in their beliefs and interpretations, does their belief system turn into a weapon of control, manipulation and enforcement and intolerance.

Just like politics, you cannot control the right wing and left wing wide-swinging extreme interpretations.
Those of us fighting to stay alive and healthy in the main stream have to endure and fight harder for what we believe in .....BALANCE.

It does seem to cause an awful lot of unrest but I guess if it wasn't religion it would be something else

No matter what you believe in, essentially deep down, we all crave at some point in our lives, a spirtual longing.

We need religion to guide us through this world, as quoted from the bible it is not up to man even to direct his own step

It's fanatics that are the problem not religion.
Butterfly:I'm atheist and I'm fine without the spiritual stuff.
We need common sense to guide us through this world.

Yes, i think it would be. Most wars are, after all, fought in the name of 'religion'!
