I asked a question earlier today about is talk radio free speech. One responder said that "No because they do not exercise journalistic integrity" and report false information. Is this the same journalistic integrity that:

1) Dan Rather used when he published George W. Bush's fake military records?
2) That Time Magazine reported for the Haditha massacare and our marines are being court marshalled for? If you are unaware, all soldiers have been cleared of charges so far because of poor or one sided reporting. Another soldier was just charged with a bogus charge.

I don't think any journalist has any integrity anymore. They just want the story!

Journalistic Integrity --- could someone define that concept?

In our history --- we once had a good press. Read the papers when T Jefferson ran for office or when Abe Lincoln ran.

Competition is what our founding fathers thought about when they defended a free and competitive press --- No, the press was not designed to be a 4th estate. Libel was used to control excess --- but courts would not honor the nonsense of protecting the source.

Ask why purported competitors have the exact same story each night ?--- Why is it that only one point of view is ever offered? The cabal of editors are too lazy to seek another story?

Examples: Congressional "earmarks" --- ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS will all run 5 minutes on earmarks as evil but typical. Have you ever seen these media outlet offer on their web page a timely (real time) list of each earmark by bill number, Congress member, amount, and a tie to the donors to the member of Congress? They have the staff --- they have the power --- but they choose not to do so?

Missing Children: Numbers vary but somewhere about 10,000 children go missing each year in the US --- most are taken by family members or are run-aways. That number is about 30 a day --- so why are none of those reported --- but some pretty wealthy blond girls goes missing, the wealthy town could not keep Ms Couric et al out? Competition?

Why is it that every newspaper with the frequent exceptions of the WSJ and CSM have exactly the same UP stories in the near exact location each day?

There is no journalistic standard. A good piece of journalism should answer the 5 W's Who, What, When, Where, Why -- and if they do not know the Why --- the piece should say --- it is the opinion of this reporter that I believe.

There are over 70 million firearms owner in the US --- weapons are used to protect people every day --- yet, it is a rare event that a journalist will report it --- Several years ago, in Milwaukee --- A Black woman with a recently and legally purchased firearm -- drove off a man in her home (with child there in) --- the story note this only because she was Black -- but the story ended with the note Police took her firearm -- the media never reported if she ever got it back.

Dan Rather lost his job because of a lapse in journalistic integrity (or perceived lapse)....The Times seems to have been doing their job....there was a court marshal wasn't there...a court marshal is a military trial...

Rush and O'reilly are not held to any journalistic standard because the are not the news...just opinion...the problem is that Fox News mixes the real news with commentary and it's difficult to separate fact from opinion when you watch them....this lack of journalistic integrity by a whole network is worse than 50 Dan Rathers....Rush is just a opinionated mouth and I can live with him because only an idiot would believe the slant his gives everything.
