When I crank it, it sounds like it wants to start but can't seem to keep going. Is this because of bad plugs, wires, distributor, fuel filter or the alternator? Where should I start?

Car started earlier today, sounded a little rough at first but then seemed to idle fine, then later about 2 or so hours wouldn't start. The car is not used much and hadn't been driven in about 3 - 4 weeks.

Well it was 39F this morning and the car still didn't start. I'm not saying it's not a main relay but either the main relay is damaged beyond working regardless of temperature or it is another issues. Any thoughts? What should be my first place to troubleshoot? Thanks

The most common cause of the no start, particularly if it is running rough if and when it does start on the 90-92 Accord is a failed main relay. The main relay is located up under the left side of the dash (to the left of the steering wheel). this relay is actually two relays in one; one controls the fuel pump and the other controls the electronic ignition. Over time the circuit board for the relay cracks and the circuits break contact. The no start typically happens after the car has been parked for a while on a warm day. When the temperature rises on the inside of the car the circuit board expands and the circuits break contact so that there is no electricity going to power the fuel pump and the electronic ignition. Typically if you open the doors and let the inside of the car cool down the circuit board will contract, the circuits will make contact again and you can start the car. You may have to leave the car sitting with the windows down for a while before you can start it (if you leave the doors open be sure to shut the dome light off or you'll drain the battery)

I'm sure you'll find that the main relay is the cause of your problem--this condition is that common that I'm almost certain thats the problem.

other causes could be a bad ignition coil, distributor cap or rotor, ignition module or fuel pump but those are all very remote possibilities compared to the main relay.

hope that helps

Do you have a check engine light? If so, start there. Get the codes pulled.

If not...it could be any of the things you listed, and more. (Fuel injectors, oxygen sensor, ecu, fuel pump, ignition, anything to do with air, fuel, or both)

I'm not 100 percent sure how to safely do it, but I'd say the next thing to do if you can't get a code is find out for sure if you've got spark. Also make sure that your fuel pump is working. It might be audible if you get close enough to it.

If both of those are good....you'll probably have to start throwing parts at it. Start with anything you KNOW is old and probably could use replacing.

If you haven't already, you should also inquire at http://www.cb7tuner.com
It's an enthusiast forum for your (and my) generation of Accord.

I honestly have an LS400. similar engine because the SC. they're severe priced to paintings on. Im 18 btw. An accord will be more low-cost to maintain. The SC400 will very last you longer, it has a more suitable solid engine. i have heard someone get 555,00 miles out of his ls400(similar engine because the sc). My uncle has an sc400 1992. It has 248,000 miles, he has had no problems with it. SC400 is a more suitable suitable searching vehicle, yet more suitable severe priced to maintain. 200k miles is in simple terms too a lot. It sounds go with to me you do not wanna spend over 3k on a vehicle, neither did I. Get a civic or corolla that has 4 doorways so that you'll stress ur pals from time to time. they'll be more low-cost than the accord or the SC400. they'll be more low-cost to maintain, and could very last a particularly lengthy time period. Plus you need to locate one on craigslist lower than 2k and lower than 160k miles. do no longer purchase both one. keep searching. both sellers declare their routinely sound, yet once u purchase one in each and every of them, you'll commence having issues. it really is existence for ya.
