It's funny that so many people around the country all feel the same way, at Thanksgiving. We try to have ours up on Thanksgiving day so that when everyone comes over for dinner, the house is decorated and it really puts everybody in the holiday spirit. That's when a lot of families draw names too, because everyone's together. My dear husband, although it's a chore, gets our house lights up by Thanksgiving weekend. This time of year passes by so fast with all of the things we have to get done and it's nice to have the decorations up to enjoy and it's peaceful to just stare at a lit tree in the dark AND what about that look on a child's face when they see that tree! It's priceless.

I'm from Tennessee and I know some people who leave their lights out all year round but, generally, Christmas decorations go up after Thanksgiving and come down after New Years.

I think this is a question alot of people wonder about. What is there to wonder about? There is no certain time. If you are not going to worry what others think and you feel like you want to do it now. Do it!! Christmas decorations do alot for some and not for others so, in my opinion, put them up when you want to and don't worry about anybody else. If you enjoy it, that's what counts.

I think its the weekend following Thanksgiving. Thats what I usually do, so this way I can enjoy the holiday longer and get into the spirit of Christmas.

I agree, the day after Thanksgiving is when most people put up their christmas decorations.
Not only is it not too early, but December is a BUSY month for most, so if you have it done, you won't have to worry about it when you're busy shopping, going to parties, baking, and wrapping presents.

If they sell it in stores, as they are right now, they're okay to put up. Just wait for the icicle lights and the big 12' snowman until after Thanksgiving or you might get a few odd looks.

We usually drag stuff out the Saturday after Thanksgiving and it takes about a week to put it all up. The house looks great, but I'm already dreading unpacking everything! Shame on me, huh?
