i believe this for two reasons first reason is because there are some ppl that are not morning ppl so therefore they do silly things.... so they might not see the school bus and just go home and assume there is no school >=D
2nd is because so the kids dont jump into other buses and think its the school bus and get snatched. And B.T.W: SCHOOL BUSSES ARE YELLOW! lol!! ;D

If you live in the United States, the color of most school buses is not a pure yellow (like the color of lemons). It's not the same color as an orange either. The color of a school bus is yellow-orange. This color is a mixture of lemon yellow and orange ... like the color of the fruit of a mango.

So why do we still refer to a school bus as yellow? Back in the 1930’s in the U.S., school buses were pure yellow. Thus, the term "school bus yellow" came into the English language.

Why are school buses yellow-orange (or yellow) today?

Some facts about yellow:

Yellow (and the yellow family of colors) gets your attention faster than any other color. People notice yellow objects first.

Even when you are looking straight ahead, you can see a yellow object that is not in front of you "in the corners of your eyes" much sooner than any other color – even red. Scientists describe this as follows: "Lateral peripheral vision for detecting yellows is 1.24 times greater than for red."

Many experts also point out that colors such as yellow or greenish-yellow are more visible to the human eye under dimmer conditions compared to red.

Some facts about yellow cars, trucks and other moving vehicles

yellow bus in traffic

If there’s fog or any kind of bad weather, drivers will still be able to see yellow cars or any moving vehicle fairly well.

Not only are school buses yellow, but also many earth-moving, road-building and other outdoor machines are yellow because you could get hurt if you accidentally run into one of them. Many accidents occur in farms and outdoors because the victim saw the moving object too late. If it’s yellow, you have a strong warning!

A fact about yellow school buses in the United States

The main reason why school buses are yellow is because safety rules and regulations in the United States require that school buses be yellow.

In other words, FEDERAL LAW requires this!

There is a required color (school bus yellow, not orange) that the Department of Transportation prevents being used on buses that are not transporting children. (If you buy a bus for a camper, as I did, it has to be painted a different color before the state will license it.)
Yellow is the most visible color, especially in headlights, and has been experimented with for firetrucks to keep them from being hit in emergencies.

School buses aren't orange...they are yellow. It;s to remind the kids that they need to remember to put a banana in their lunches....duh?

Orange is used for construction signs. It is a standard in the Uniform Traffic Control Devices handbook because it stands out above any other color. Should not use it for school busses as they are not under construction.

Safety and visibility.

Did you notice also that the area AROUND the rear lights, taillight, LARGE brakelights, LARGE turn signals, and LARGE loading/unloading lights are painted black around the light fixtures to add the visibility factor?

Also, the rear of the busses have yellow reflective tape on them too.

Ours are all yellow with black stripes. I'm thinking it's because they are highly visible and easily identifiable as carrying school children.

When you see orange you relate it to a school bus, so its a visual and mental aspect, and it makes it easier to see
