The piston got all messed up, i disassembled, and now reassembling the piston, etc.
On the piston, there is an arrow on one side...any idea which way this piston should be aiming toward (front or back?)

Before you do any repairs, why did the piston get all messed up,not much point in replacing it till you find out. The arrow faces the exhaust port.

The first answer is right, make sure the cylinder isn't scored, and I would have replaced the cylinder too. By the time you have to tear it down the cylinder is usually out of spec. and won't last long.

Yes, arrow facing exhaust!

If the piston has 2 rings, make sure you put the correct one on top.
Maybe you shouldn't be doing this job yourself.
