Roger Goodell wants to expand American Football to other countries to bring in more revenue for the NFL.The funny thing is,is that he has not expanded the market to one of the biggest markets in the US,that is Los Angeles California. This is an American game.If people want to see American Football they can travel here and all NFL stadiums should have at least a 100,000 seats minium. That will bring in more revenue.

Adding extra seats to NFL stadiums would not come close to equaling the amount of revenue you could generate with even light penetration into the European market. I personally don't lik the idea of overseas games, but it's got much more profit potential than slapping on extra seats.

Attendance counts for quite a small piece of the NFL pie. The real money comes from TV contracts, and areas like merchandising are big money makers, too. This isn't about attendance, but about taking that huge next step.

oh yea its AF described the situation for no LA team pretty well. on the topic of expansion i dont think its a great idea with the way they are doin it. sending teams to europe to play isnt fair to the athletes and robs fans of a home game and lets face it the dolphins arent a great team right now and putting them even for a home game somewhere besides miami in this country wouldnt draw alot of fans. if they the nfl wants to try expansion out they should do it in the preseason in untested markets, kinda like they did in japan. Not alot of american like preseasons games so no one would care if they miss it and it would give a new market a taste at the sport, while also the main talent on teams wouldnt be playing alot anyway.

another thing the NFL could do is to try and get a Canadain team. they already have football, which sucks by the way compared to the NFL, so they are exposed to it and do show an interest. also theres only one MLB team in Canada right now so theres not a whole lot of teams up besides in hockey. And hockey is a big contact sport, Canadians seem to like that. also Football is a game which can be easily played in a dome so including a few teams for them into the NFL would Bring lots low worth Canadian dollars the NFl's way

Ok, 100,000 person stadiums are expensive, so don't count on that happening anytime soon. These stadiums have history too.

Yes, it is odd that there's no pro football team in L.A. But you'd be asking all those L.A. people who are Niners or Raiders fans to pick from a third choice.

People outside of America don't care about American Football, I think Goodell is going to find this out the hard way.

Although I like Goodell's hardline discipline approach I wish he'd leave the Intl arena alone. Goodell at least could've made an American approach to this. He could of made it a annual USO game in support of our troops.

I was stationed in Okinawa Japan for a year. We got to see some games back then on a 12 hour delay. I remember the Bengal 49er Superbowl someone told us the score before the game started. They have a stadium in Naha that could've been used for a regular season game.

But just to do it for the money. Like the NFL needs more.

if you arent moving forward, you are going backwards. the nfl has to explore new markets. the us of a is rapidly running out of new markets for teams. sure, a city like san antonio would support a team, but dallas, houston, and new orleans would all be against a franchise there. LA doesnt support teams. it's just a fact. LA will still get a team because of TV market...and it will probably fail again. oklahoma city? memphis?

i think the nfl has to explore new markets, and if they don't they are foolish. you just can't sit on your hands, you have to be proactive....

however, the nfl must be very careful with any expansion, here or abroad. in my op the product, (ie quality of play), isnt all that great as it is and this is because there just arent enough good to great players to go around. so i wouldnt look at any expansion right now.

Playing American Football in other countries is great - as long as its their own league and not moving NFL games over there. Moving regular season NFL games and possibly the Super Bowl overseas just shows that the commissioners office is more interested in the almighty dollar than the happiness of football fans here in America.

For the regular season I think it is a horrible idea. As far as preseason I say go ahead and do it. He is right in one aspect, it will bring more revenue to get people world wide interested in the sport, it gets people paying for satelite packages to get the games and gets people buy ing merchandise but to locate a team elsewhere would drag the league down.

I think they do need a team in Los Angeles but now it is getting to the point where you do not want to expand much more as you will be dropping the level of competition and you have to find a team like Jacksonville that needs to move. As far as 100,000 seat venues...I do not see that happening, they would have to lower some prices to get enough people to fill the seats, now they can charge premium prices for the 55-60 thousand they put in the stadiums. Owners are not going to go for bigger to get less return. They do need to get the NY teams back in NY City to draw more tourists, who wants to travel to a swamp to see a game?

It has nothing to do with ticket sales. Selling out a 100,000 seat stadium is peanuts compared to television revenue. If they can expand the television viewing audience to a big chunk of Europe, the amount of $$ they make will be tremendous.

Well I think that it is safe to assume that American football WILL be played around the world sooner or later. Why wait 30 years though if you can speed things up right now. I hate it when people are slow to evolve and fear change, it keeps us all down in the long run.

I think the Detroit Lions should move to Los Angeles! Play at the colesium, and have live lions in cages outside the stadium, be feeding the lions as the crowd comes in. The stands would be full of celebrities. It would be hugely successful, and they'd make it into a great team! Michigan is such a wasteland, and especially Detroit.
