You'll be fine. The fires are finally starting to die down and they are nowhere near the airport or downtown. Life and the city is functioning normally in many parts of the county, especially the central part in and around downtown. The smoke isn't as bad there as in other parts of the county too. You won't even notice any difference when you get here b/c the fires are far away from downtown and that area and has little effect on that part of SD. I live in Pacific Beach and aside from smokey skies, everything is normal.

Unless somehow the fires that are still burning get wildly out of control and burn the whole city down, you should be fine. The airport you'll fly into and the cruise dock are both near downtown and the beaches, which haven't been affected. Also, hopefully, there won't be any fires by Nov. 3.

Hi - the airport never did close. The air is clearer today, and actually very pleasant. Everything around town was cancelled this week as far as events and schools but many businesses including restaurants remained open all week. Mail was delivered every day. My trash pickup today was on time. Traffic has been light because everybody took the week off.

Everything will be back to normal by Saturday/Sunday.

I live in San Diego, the fires and conditions are slightly improving. Unless you are going to the effected areas and are only going to the beach, downtown or bay area you should be fine.

A week from now? Who knows. If still burning, there may be travel delays, the airport may be shut down, there may be blackouts affecting either the airport or the cruise port. Suggest you call the cruise line and see if they are posting updates on line or by e-mail.

The weather is improving and they are expecting full containment of all fires by sometime next week. The airport has been open the whole time. I wouldn't worry about it.
