I work on a complex mission critical IT system which my employer has started to outsource to an Indian company. Currently we are training an Indian team to take over our jobs which includes programming, design, database design & 24/7 helpdesk. My impression of the new staff is not favourable as they do not seem to have the necessary skills, knowledge or background and must complete handover of knowledge in 3 months. MY company is driving this through to make cost savings but my concern is that this could lead to a serious service failure in the future and lower quality support. Indeed this is compounded because the current UK staff are likley to leave so the company cannot go back. Would be interested to hear other peoples opinions or experiences.

I'm always amazed at the loyalty shown by individuals to their Companies, whilst the Company is in the process of making that person Redundant ..

Face it .. you are training the Indian Team to take over your jobs .. the major cost savings will come when you and your Team are shown the door ..

Time to move on I think ..

We may not like it but if the facts are anything to go by it really is very successful with other businesses and thus everyone else is following suit. They are improving their accents as well to be more American or British sounding. Things like this are actually happening - I've seen documentaries on this. They are even becoming more like America in the way the businesses or these IT companies are set up and run!

I'm British Indian and even I have trouble understanding the Indian workforce not because of their accent but because they talk way too fast for me to understand!

However, given all that is happening with India and the benefits to its economy and its rise onto the World stage it will soon be another Superpower along with China. All this is down to the fact that people there are learning very quickly and becoming very thick-skinned with the abuse they are getting from us Brits and Americans.

You may think that they do not possess the necessary skills but believe me they will get the hang of it very quickly and possibly make improvements. Indian people do not like complacency and will ensure they are the best! They pretty much recycle everything and so if they can do that successfully, running an IT system might just be childsplay.

This view may not be popular but its out there and with the incredible success rate in India, UK & US companies will continue to outsource to Indian companies.

Let them do it. Then, when it goes to the wall in a big way, leave to work for a company that doesnt try to shaft its technical workforce by outsourcing.
