For example, it's perfectly possible to have a socialist democracy (see Europe) and a capitalist dictatorship (see the United States.)

I don't think conservatives generally confuse political systems with economic systems. I see liberals make this mistake all the time..........

You cannot be capitalist and socialist. The political system dictates the economic system. The more socialist a society is, the less capitalist it is, and vice versa.

Still, want to know the affect of socialism on economy? If France were an American state it would be the second largest state land and population-wise and rank 47th economically just ahead of Arkansas with unemployment somewhere in the mid-teens. Germany is not much different.

But good try and careful what you wish for.

To be fair, they tend to be closely intertwined. Socialist systems can have a democratic framework, but they vest so much power in the state that they have a strong tendency towards authoritarianism. Democracies can adopt socialist programs, but constitutional ones with built-in gaurantees of individual freedoms have to override those guarantees to do so, which slows the progress of socialism in such systems.

In contrast, Capitalism can work just fine in anything from a participatory democracy to an old-fashiond monarchy - as long as there's rule of law and contracts and property rights are enforced.

You made up two oxymorons: "socialist democracy" is a contradiction in terms. Free enterprise is an economic principal. Dictatorship is a type of government. So you mixed two things that are not similar.
I am a conservative. I understand economics and politics. I think you do not.

America is not a capitalist dictatorship.

Dictatorship - a form of government in which a ruler or small clique wield absolute power (not restricted by a constitution or laws).
