What is the x->a method and h ->0 method, which will work better?

f(x) = x^3

f(x) = x^4

f(x) = x^6

f(x) = x^n

It simply multiplies the slope by the constant making it steeper. If the constant is negative it changes the direction of the slope from rising to falling and vice-versa.

for f(x) = x^3 the slope is 3x^2.
If c is a constant, the slope of cx^3 = 3cx^2
