"If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck ......", does it really matter if the duck is real, virtual, imaginary, the opium of the masses, the second cousin of Zeus twice removed, a fairytale character, the reflection of the sun in a cow's eye, the best buddy of some mad crusading saint, the final justification behind an appealing act of terrorism, the racist’s Heavenly Hitler, a psychological crutch, ...? ... It simply IS.

The more you argue that roasted duck skin is full of Saturated FAT and hence bad for your heart, the more people want to taste it. Let ‘em have their duck FAT and eat it too - containing the socio-political damage of The Holy, in a democratic society, can never be achieved through confrontational acts of force/violence.

STOP arguing, bitching, and nagging on Y!A; go VOTE - do NOT let another Holy Alliance of the Fanatic Religious Right, the Unchecked Corporate Greed, and the Power-hungry Neocon Warmongers take office and flush the last reminiscence of our precious Democracy and our International [Good Will] Image [completely] down the freaking tube.

Well stated. Their 'certainty' is a powerful motivator to turn out, while those who are equally certain that they are delusional are too lazy to show up. We have only ourselves to blame if we do not vote.

If this is the age old question, "Does God exist?" then your analogy may lead to another question, "Can an ideal exist"

History shows that we have killed for a simple ideal, and the mere denial of the existence of God acknowledges the existence of God in what ever form the chooser make.
An ideal, a fellowship, or a cause can be more powerful than any science, political or religious force.

The fact that almost no one has "no" opinion on the existence of God makes it the single most unifying belief in the history of mankind.

But like all beliefs, science, and religions the individual makes up their mind as to what the information means to them, and that is where it unravels as a unifying factor to make it a single world.

It is NOT "a fact" that God exists in the minds of those who declare themselves as faithful. Those that declare themselves as faithful and God fearing and religious are some of the most dangerous people in the history of the world!!
