I totally agree.
Best to give it to the kids, you can have it drawn up by a solicitor that you can live in it for the rest of your life, rent free. After 7 years of giving it, you have lost that amount of collateral to go towards any fees.

I think that the Government cannot afford all their New silly policies of Cultural Experimentation and their Huge Managerial Salaries to be able to provide Care for the Elderly too. No good complaining because there is an increasing tendency for Officials to place themselves above interrogation and accountability . It is difficult to get an acknowledgement from a department, never mind any action where it is needed or reported. Fewer People believe that there are Politicians who care for their Country first.

This is why everyone should have a good pension plan. I do not want to be relying on anybody for anything when I retire and would not like to burden my children. So while it might seem costly now to be putting a lot of money into a decent pension plan from a young age I am hoping it will pay off in the end.

there are ways around this issue apparently - if this is your problem then you will need a solicitor or advisor.
this issue has been around for a very long time - pre-labour-the counter argument is that if you use your home as an investment for your future then getting older with the possibility of needing care is inevitable for many of us. the priority of owning your own home should not be to leave a nest egg for your children who should be capable of fending for themselves.
if the kids want the money then perhaps they should be prepared to look after mum or dad when they are too elderly or infirm to care for themselves.
in my own family one of my sisters - a single parent without a home stated she would move in with mum and look after her with the rest of us mucking in to help - should my mother die my sister will get the house - seems perfectly fair to me.
personally i don't see the problem with this in principle especially as with cash from a house in the pot much nicer care could be obtained - i intend to arrange this for myself and my husband is going to do the same -
that's what your home should be for - a roof over your head when you're fit and well and the means to pay for comfortable care when you're not.

yea! i see your point. but let me tell you something. if your mum or dad have to go into a care home and have to give away their childrens inheritance to stay comfortable. whos fault is that? my partner and i looked after my Dad when he got ill and right up until he died. it wasnt easy but we shared the load. and he had nothing!! to leave at all. (lived in a council flat) so if your Mum or your Dad are ill and you iether cant or wont take care of them. then thats the way the cookie crumbles. the important thing is the comfort and the happiness of your parent. if you cant support them in their time of need then some one has! to.

Because people who work really hard and struggle to pay for their houses are the least likely people to uprise against disgusting government policies like this while the true scroungers would kick off as it is surprising as they always seem to know their rights (p.s. not saying everyone on benefits/don't own their own house are scroungers!)

I agree if people that work for 50 or more years and paid taxes all that time should be given free care.

They shouldn't have to sell their homes. A simple reverse mortgage will accomplish the same thing and they can live their for the rest of their lives.

It's disgusting. My mother-in-law has just gone into a home and they've taken her pension book to pay for it which leaves her with nothing for herself. She can't even afford a packet of biscuits.
