I have an appointment to see my doctor. My husband and I have been trying for a little over a year to get pregnant and it hasnt happened. What does the doctor normally do? I understand that they could prescribe Clomid if nothing else works. But will the doctor be able to prescribe this, or is it a last resort?

The doctor can prescribe Clomid. It's usually the first thing they do. However, it's helpful for them to check you and your husband to understand why you're not conceiving. For example, are you ovulating? Do you have endometriosis? Do you have blocked tubes? Does your husband have a low sperm count?

Doing a basal metabolic temperature chart will help you know when you are ovulating.
You can get the thermometer kit at a drug store like Walgreens. Then do what the directions say and you can ask your doctor about it. My doctor had me do this. And then if you are not ovulating take the Clomid though you still have to do the temperatures to find out what day you ovulate.
It worked for me twice about 20 years ago.
I am really surprised more doctors are not doing this with their patients. It is not hard, just taking your temperature every day before you get out of bed or move around and put it on a graph.

He'll do an internal exam and if you haven't been doing so, he'll ask you to start charting your cycle, he'll also order up some blood work for you to check your hormones. Depending on your age he may do more or play wait and see for a few months. Clomid isn't last resort. But it is a midway point. Depending on your history your doctor may order some other diagnostic tests as well.

sounds like either you or your husband has a hormore problem. it took my husband and i a year and a half to have a baby when we first started trying well we finally gave up and right after that i got pregnant, but ask if theres a way he can "flush your tubes" most people get pregnant RIGHT AFTER!
