he began recording at 17 years old
dad was a big influence
big george jones fan
played at honky tonk bars for years before becoming famous

Except for the "began recording at 17" I was going to guess Alan Jackson, but I don't think he started recording that early.

and the last "clue" ...isn't....nearly EVERYone who has done country music played honky tonk bars before they became famous.

It is Hank Williams Jr. Even though his father died when he was only 3, his mother was the one who pushed him to follow in his dad's footsteps by singing his old songs.
