It has to do with the fact that so many frauds and scams have been uncovered from churches that people dont see them as so high and mighty anymore. It also has to do with brains there are a lot of contridictions in the bible and many religions. So i think most of these atheists oppose god from the bad face religion has put on everything. God is a word we have made to pretty much understand everything and our creator. Regardless if you believe in it ... its there because something did spark our existence. It might of been a flux in some energy that created our universe well that would be god then. But anyways bad religion put a evil face on the whole thing and thats why atheists will continue to grow.
Because organized religion is just corrupt and is very easy to take advantage of the people who believe in it. Hence the whole current right wing of politics right now.
See atheists are not the ones you have to worry about. They just chose not to believe in god.
now on the other hand
ag·nos·tic –noun 1. a person who holds that the existence of the ultimate cause, as God, and the essential nature of things are unknown and unknowable, or that human knowledge is limited to experience.
agnostic says yes there is a god but you could never know and therefore religion is null and void. Its these guys you have to worry about....lol
I think people put too many high values on current religion.

There are plenty more Christians, Buddhists, etc. than there are Atheists on Yahoo! Answers. The thing is, when you ask a question that says "Are you an Atheist?", it would, naturally, attract Atheists. If you asked "Are you a Christian?", people who are Christians would probably reply, too. More plentifully, in fact.

The CIA website lists 10% of the US population have a religion of "none".
https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/us.html#People
That could include various groups and probably not all them would call themselves atheist. I would not be suprised at a 7-10% population.

So many Christians are so complacent that their future is secure in Christ that they give up doing anything on this planet.
This makes me a little angry. Why can't we all work hard for our beliefs on this planet? Earth needs everyone's help and input regardless of religious alignment. If you love people, help them. Vote. Be courteous of others whom do not share your views.
You don't need a Bible to be civil.
By the way, there are other countries besides America answering posts as well.

Atheist tend to be louder than others, they are more likely to state their opinion. Also, it could have something to do with how you phrased the question, attracted more atheist than Christians.

Because your questions was directed to Atheists. If you had phrased your question, "Do you believe in God," your replies may have been quite different.
