Don't be fake. IF you like (or dislike) something don't be afraid to say so. Don't hide the fact that you might like something even if other people think it's silly or stupid. Don't agree with everyone if you don't just because you think it's popular to do so.

Basically, don't be a follower and dance to your own beat.

That's a very good question.

For me, "being yourself" means not pretending to be something you're not. A true friend will be there for you through thick and thin inc emotional roller coasters. You sound like the kind of person I'd love to have as a friend. And I definitely understand not having any confidence.

Feel free to email me any time.

heres a simple way of thinking about it. imagine your picking a color (it doesn't matter for what) that your going to live with and see on a regular basis throughout your life. Now most people will choose a beige (that light brown seen everywhere nowadays on buildings and products) because it's neutral and they think they can "get by" on this. but Honestly who really wants a color that looks like dry dirt everyday. People want all sorts reds, yellows, chrome and even the whole rainbow if they can get it. When you look at beige what color do you really want? When you choose one that you actually like and not because it'll "work" thats being yourself. start out exploring your likes and dislikes. Never let another talk you out of what you like except when your safety's compromised and if they say your taste is odd in any way remember every trendsetter goes through this and it's way better then being another of the herd.

I would say that you would need to ask yourself am I doing anything to change yourself so others will like you. If you are then try your best to stop. If you're not then try to find what you don't like about yourself and try to change, gradually.

As someone who used to have serious confidence problems I can tell you it won't be easy. What worked for me was getting a job where I had to interact with a lot of people. Then I forced myself to go out and meet different people. It will take time so go slow and try to have fun.

It either means don't pretend to be someone you're not or to act the way you want to (or both), or to act the way you usually do.

The first one is ok, the second and third are bad advice since doing what you want leads to trouble and death and acting yourself can be bad if you have a rotten or poor personality. Instead, you should act the way God wants you to, lovingly obedient to him, and being that way means being peaceful and kind to all (except those he tells you not to be peaceful towards). That is what will gain you close friends in the end. The bad way gains you evil friends, though none of them may ever be close friends depending on what kind of evil type you are. Usually a very evil person cab barely stand being around a person who is not evil like them for long if they can help it, even if that person hates God just like them.

I believe I answered your other question which was on how to make friends, look for my answer to it.

Are you 15 years old or younger? If you are that is perfectly normal not to know yet... however if you are 16 or older see below...

I would say talk to a councelor then... it should be easy and relaxing to "just be yourself". Sounds as though you need to find yourself... I suggest getting some help. Someone without judgement that has a degree is just the person. Good luck!!

When the ancient Greeks made pilgramiges to the Oracle at Delphi, there was, before you entered, an inscription on the temple: "Know Thyself" -- If you don't know thyself, then you will not know what the oracle meant, as the words of Apollo were always ambiguous...

To be yourself, you must know thyself, and in order to do that... well... I don't know... and quite frankly, few people do...

might I add that many say "being yourself" is the road to finding yourself...

Hi... you don't have to put on an act for others to like you. Most people either accept us at face value or reject us completely. We don't "click" with every person we meet.

and you don't have to say "yes" when you mean "no", either. if you don't feel like doing something, then say NO...

you say you lack confidence.. there is a lot of good information on the internet for self-help. You can do a yahoo search for SELF-ESTEEM SELF-HELP or CONFIDENCE SELF-HELP. You will find lots of resources.

take care of You,,.. the rest will fall into place

You can't be yourself, because you don't know who you are. I recommend taking some time to gain some confidence, and figure out what you want to be. Then it will be easier to make friends. Find stuff that your good at, and realize that your worthy of people.

The only times of my life when friends didn't last long was when I knew I couldn't be me around them and they still want to be around. So I distanced from them. Are you doing something like that? Find some people who can accept who you are. Be around them instead. And don't expect everyone to like you. That part's hardest, especially if you think everyone should. :-)
