i've seen my dad over the years use a meter of some sort that goes wild when comes close to a leaking area of the aircon. But i my self use washing liqiud with a spung if its leaking will give you bubbles.
you know it dosent take long for the aircon gas to escape from cars, and if your system is low on gas it will not cool or even the pump wont engage due to low gas pressure.

You can do a bit of looking at your hoses. Look for oil around the hose connections and the condensor that is in front of the radiator. It is difficult to see everything but you may discover the problem. Also look carefully arond the back of the compressor clutch. There is a seal in the front of the compressor that is a common place for leaks.

best thing to do is take it to get checked, some places do the check for about 50 bucks. the leak could be anyplace, have them run the uv dye in the system. ac repairs are costly so be ready to drop 300 to 1600 on it,make sure the business you choose covers the work
