I LOVE scary movies, but it just seems that lately they are all about blood and gore, but not really about scaring. I just wanted to find out what would be someone's perfect movie that would "scare" them. Obviously there will be blood in gore, But what kind of a movie would really "scare" you or "freak you out"?
I was actually playing with the idea of writing one and wanted to know what all the movie-goers say would really get to them.

Ok, I'm not really looking for what the name of the movie is. More like what situations or happenings would scare you!

Yah know, gore isn't scary, just upsetting to look at.
Being scared is when you are expecting someone/something to jump out at you.
Today's movies mostly center on what the makers of the movie can by with.
I think if they aim towards scaring the audience with suspense and "not knowing what to expect" it makes the movie better.

Personally I don't like scary movies. But if I am going to watch one I don't want it to be realistic, like could really happen. Don't like any thing involving being buried or drowning or someone breaking in my home. Aliens are good cause they aren't 'real' at least as shown in movies. "The incredible melting man" was interesting.
But my reason for answering is to tell you my favorite scary movie adventure.......about 30 yrs ago.........
My husband (not at that time) and I went to a walk in type movie theater on a date. It was an older smaller building behind the larger newer theater. We sat in the dark watching "Hill House". Every time the movie would get to a scary spot, the old pipes in the theater would creak and groan right along with the movie. It wasn't that the movie was sooo great but the theater played right along.

Yaaaaaaaay. Great question!!
i love Horror movies. but real horror that makes me soil my pants or at least hyperventilate. chinese or japanese horror hits u hard, not because they're relly scary but more beacuse they're really good at creating tenion and suspense. the americans only got it right in the 70s and maybe 80s but not really. anything made these days just isn't scary, gory maybe but thats it. If you want gross out, do Hostel, it doesn't really have a plot or make sense but it will make u squirm. movie called Madhouse is kinda cool. Movie called The Last House on the Left, still v. squirmy 1972. Maybe Irreversible. if you're brave, Monica belluci. french film. lots of violence and a rape scene. more violence but there is an amazing storyline and worth enduring. Dans Ma Peau is like a reality tv horror movie cause you see the woman fall "from grace" she basically becomes obsessed with cutting herself but its not like an emo self harm movie because she actually tries to preserve the skin she chops off. its really weird but ends beautifully.... woah i'm done now really but to freak me out i'd suggest ghosts because they can't be proven real or fake. The Entity is a film that will freak you out and you really can't watch it alone.... right i'm off hope i helped but great Q

I think the movies that rely more on suspense than gore are more effective. Some excellent examples are Alien, John Carpenter's remake of The Thing, and the original Halloween.

The scariest thing for me would be to wake up in the middle of a peace full night, no wind howling, no storm, just dead silence. Looking around slowly, the flicker of a dead street light illuminates my room for a brief second allowing the silhouette of a small girl to become visible with no face.
Great now I'm scared to go to sleep

the gore doesn't scare me,it's when they don't show stuff. the really suspense-y ones get me.Like when there's noises coming from the cellar, but you never really find out what they are..
You should check out Les Diaboliques for a great film like that.not necessarily 'horror' but there's a proper twist in the end :p
