You have to be careful to get the operations right because of the way it is written.

(-8)(-4) means (-8) MULTIPLIED by (-4)
(-4)-3 means take (-4) and SUBTRACT 3

Remember the order of operations. Multipications first and addition/subtractions next.

So... you do (-8)(-4)(-4) first. You get (-8)(-4)=32
then 32(-4)=-128

Then do the subtractions.... -128 -3 = -131

A negative times a negative is a positive.
A positive times a negative is a negative.
So -8 X -4 is positive 32. Times -4 is -128.

A Negative minus a negative is like ignoring the negatives and do basic math. Then you put the negative back in.

So -128 -3 = -131

neg * neg = positive
neg * pos = negative

(-8 * -4)(-4) (-3) = +32 (-4)(-3) = -128 (-3) = 384
answer: 384

or if that last number is being subtracted

(-8 * -4)(-4) (-3) = +32 (-4)(-3) = -128 -3 = -131
answer: -131
