for a pap smear do they check for genital warts and herpes?

The pap test will tell them if you have HPV, the warts, if they are present, will be examined and talked about. As for herpes, unless you are having an outbreak, or there are sores, they do not normally test for it, or look for it. If you suspect you might have come in contact with either of these, tell your doctor, he or she will do a thorough check.

Genital warts are usually found when they do the visual exam. Herpes is usually determined if you are there for an outbreak, but unless you're having an episode there is no way to visually tell that you have the disease, and it won't show up on a standard pap smear (there are STD screenings that can be done that might have it show up).

Genital warts are caused by HPV, which will cause an abnormal pap test result (or you can ask specifically for an HPV test).
Usually my gyno asks if I want any std tests before she starts the pelvic exam/pap test. Otherwise, just ask.

Usually you will have to ask for a full panel STD test. My GYN asks you when she comes in would u like STD testing included.
