There's a gentleman who lives in a small town east of San Diego. He had his 98th birthday in July. I was concerned about his safety and just learned he is safe and has moved in with his grand-daughter since there was no power at his home.
BTW, his name is John Finn. He's the last surviving Medal of Honor winner from the Pearl Harbor attack!

that is great...we are entertaining about 500,000 guests here in Orange County..the beaches and parks are filled with tenters, motels are offering very cheap prices, the stadiums are at capacity. The Red Cross is overwhelmed, as are our fire fighters...this is the second day without wind...hopefully, we will be able to extinguish them before the wind comes in form the ocean. And of course, all that smoke that blew out to sea is on its way back to us...oh joy! Peace and love, Goldwing

Yes, I wanted to hear the good news about John Finn. Sounds like he deserves another medal for surviving the fires.

That's a feel good story! My heart aches for the devastation that the fires have caused.I'm in Canada and on the show coast to coast last night a Dr. Turi said he thought it may have been started by terrorists. Has anyone else heard anything like that?

The last person I was a caregiver for was a much decorated fighter pilot in WW11. He was an amazing man. I am so glad your hero is Ok. I contacted friends of mine in Ca and they are OK, one is far enough away behind mountains that she has no smoke and ash. My other male friend says the fires are 30 miles from him but he is covered with ash and dirt and yuk. All of us being old it is just nice to see we are hanging in and doing well. Prayers for your hero. ;0)

Thank God, he is okay as I think this man has been through enough, in his lifetime!

I will be praying for John as I know even the smallest disruption can be a burden but, this is much more than a simple burden!! In as much, I am praying for all those who have been displaced, such as John, and who have lost much, including lives!

God bless you, for your loving post!
Praying,
Gail

How wonderful is that! Bless his heart.
I heard on the news yesterday that the FBI is on the prowl for the arsonists that started many of these fires. I just can't believe this. Absolutely, horribly, unbelievable!

Wow that is pretty cool! My husband's grandfather just passed last week at the age of 96 and we found that to be amazing that he lived that long!
