Symptoms of gastroenteritis include diarrhea, abdominal pain, vomiting, headache, fever and chills. Most people recover with no treatment.

The most common problem with gastroenteritis is dehydration. This happens if you do not drink enough fluids to replace what you lose through vomiting and diarrhea. Dehydration is most common in babies, young children, the elderly and people with weak immune systems.

Treatment - There's often no specific medical treatment for gastroenteritis. Antibiotics aren't effective against viruses, and overusing them can contribute to the development of antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria. Treatment consists of self-care steps.
To help keep yourself more comfortable and prevent dehydration while you recover, try the following:

1.Let your stomach settle. Stop eating and drinking for a few hours.

2.Try sucking on ice chips or taking small sips of water. You might also try drinking clear soda such as 7UP or Sprite, clear broths, or noncaffeinated sports drinks such as Gatorade. Affected adults should try to drink plenty of liquid every day, taking small, frequent sips.

3.Ease back into eating. Gradually begin to eat bland, easy-to-digest foods such as soda crackers, toast, gelatin, bananas, rice and chicken. Stop eating if your nausea returns.

4.Avoid certain foods and substances until you feel better. These include dairy products, caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, and fatty or highly seasoned foods.

5.Get plenty of rest. The illness and dehydration may have made you weak and tired.

6.Be cautious with medications. Use medications such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others) sparingly, if at all. They can make your stomach more upset. Use acetaminophen (Tylenol, others) cautiously. It sometimes can cause liver toxicity, especially in children.

7.Care should always be taken to wash the hands often, especially when preparing food and after bowel movements. Hand washing after bowel movements is important since the organism that causes this condition lives in the digestive tract.

soaps irritate eczema. Use only gentle non soap on skin and a baby soap on clothing. Avoid heat, sun and too much water. Apply all medication with cotton (dont use your hands). Poor lil thing.

What I know is, that you should not drink any coffee, no sodas, no alcohol, no fatty foods. Instead eat a light low fat diet with vegetables and some rice. Drink peppermint tea and don't eat late at night.

Try a couple enemas weekly. Acidophilus vitamins are great to make good bacteria in ur colon for better digestion. Also daily fiber in conjunction with the acidophilus will work well.
