i had this happen last yr but i also had a sore throat and went to the dr. who said it was just allergies and that i am growing so i should be sleeping a lot.
should i be concerned or just continue with feeling tired all the time and sleeping all the time. i dont like to sleep all the time b/c i am missing out on fun and stuff. but when you are as tired as this.... sleeping is all you can do. thanks

People generally need less sleep as they age. Of course babies and young children sleep the most and it is important that teenagers get 8-10 hours of sleep; however, everybody functions differently. While one person may need 8-10 hours the next person may only require 5-7. Anything less than this may cause your performance in eveyday activities to wain, but it is important to listen to your body. For an example I try to get 8 hours a night. If I get less than that I actually feel more energetic the following day versus if I get more, I feel lazy and tired. So get the level of sleep that your body is comfortable with. Lack of sleep however could be a sign of an underlying medical issue or could lower your immune system. Another thing I can suggest is to geta simple blood test for underactive thyroid or iron, these conditions can make people very tires. Especially if you have a sore throat because that is where the thyroid gland is located. Google in Underactive Thyroid for more symptoms. Ask for these tests specififically. It can be cured with a simple pill taken everyday. You might also want to be tested for mono, which symptoms include constantly being tires and sore throat. Despite the fact that it is caused the "kissing disease" people can get it very easily, especially if you are in school with so many other kids and participating in extra curricular activities, you could catch it by touching a door and later rubbing your face, eyes for example. My friend got it from working in a store and dealing with money, then touching his face, for example. Also as mentioned before you may just be overtired and sleeping too much. When people over sleep they tend to feel more exhausted and wanting to sleep all the time vs. the person who gets less sleep. Hope this helps:-)

Are you sleeping because you're tired? Or is it because you think you should?

You really shouldn't be sleeping for 3-4 hours after school. That's a pretty long nap. I find that when I sleep too much, my body feels more tired and lethargic. That could definately be the cause of the headaches as well.

Try to sleep less. At 16, it would be normal to get 8 hours of sleep at night and then take about an hour nap later in the day. Set your alarm clock and get up when it goes off. If you continue to lay back down, you can easily sleep for 3-4 hours.

You are sleeping way too much!!! I think you need to talk to your doctor about it. There is some disease that causes people to sleep all the time I cannot remember the name of it though but you need to talk to your parents and your doctor!

You did the right thing. You went to the doctor. I'd suggest listening to your doctor rather than any amatuer advice you get on yahoo.

You may not be eating enough. I have the same problem, so I asked my Mom about it(she's a doctor)and that's what she told me. And don't just eat more, eat healthier food.

Also, if you are Semitic (Jew, Arab, Persian, Armenian) or African, you may want to be tested for one of the anemias those gene types have.
