Anyone remember those 70s tv commercials about speed reading courses? Lol!

The voice-over promised that you could whiz through huge books in just minutes AND comprehend it all. They showed a hand literally skimming through each page.

It was insane. Looking back at it now, it was obviously a big, fat scam. (kinda like Head-On is now) But as kids, we'd see that ad & go 'Wow!"

Evelyn Wood speed reading course, and it was not a scam. It does work, and I do know people who can read scanning a page with comphrehension and can answer questions concerning what they've read.

How can you criticize a method that you've obviously never taken?

Yeah, Evelyn Wood Reading Dynamics or something like that. I wanted to believe it was real. It would have made my life in high school a pleasure. Between that and card counting in BJ, I'd be having a blast.

I'm 35+, but the only thing I remeber from the 70's were the girls in their swimsuits and long, yellow wet banana slides...oh and Lite Brite with the girl next door.

Good times! I actually took the courses and have memorized the entire WWW, I can also see many things with my "X-ray Glasses", which I ordered from "Boy's Life" magazines, as a scout. :D

"Head on" is a scam...OMG!!!

P.S. Becky, I think they failed you...LOL!

Hi Fonzie,

Oh my gosh...how the time flies!
Yes, I remember those commercials.
I wander how our teachers felt about them?....lol.

I also remember Bill Cosby's "Picture Pages".

Yah know, it seems those commercials only came on when we got out of school, rushing home to watch "Dark Shawdows" or "Gilligan's Island"...(I'm Gilligan, I would always yell claiming the character first...lol.)

Yah know Fonzie, I'm gonna do a web search on retro commercials.

They used to do a skit on SNL about that.

Dan Akroyd would quickly say"Welcome to the Evelyn Woodhead sped redding course",and he would just keep on mispronouncing words ,getting faster and faster and more and more sloppy with his pronunciation.

I do remember that and I high school I took a class in that. I did help. It taught how to focus on certain words. They taught some of us this so it would help us study better.
