San Pedro: Plenty of soot and ash on everything - if I had respiratory distress I wouldn't go outside. It's been hot and no offshore breeze until today. It's still warm but the cool breezes are keeping all the smoke and ash inland. I can just barely see an outline of the green hills just seven blocks away and can't see anything beyond that - that's really rare. The air quality is generally good this close to the ocean (8 blocks).

Sorry to hear the rest of you are having such a hard time further inland. Maybe now the state will buy those new fire fighting planes that land on water and scoop up 12,000 gals. at a time inside of thirty seconds. I know there are patrols of private citizens who watch for arsonists, but we need more of that. Good luck to you.

Yeah it sucks that it's so smokey here. I'm sorry that you had no electricity for a few days. I live 15 minutes near the Santiago fire, and I felt the same as you do. The sky is a freakishly colored ORANGE and at times, RED ? It was scary, the sun gave up a eerie glow to it. It's hard to breathe even with the ocean breeze coming in today.

Lake Forest (near the Santiago Canyon fire) is super smoky and ashy! It looks overcast, actually. All local schools have been closed today due to the bad air! I'm SO ready for the end of this. But, hey...at least I still have my house.
