i have been breast feeding my son since the day he was born. he will be 4 eeks old tomorrow. i have had no trouble breat feeding him at all. although now i decided i would like to pump some breat milk for when we go out in public just so i dont have to pull out these huge knockers when im out and about.
i tryed pumping about 4 times and i only can ever get an ounce at a time... whats up with that. it takes about 20 mion to get that much and then i just get frustrated bc then milk just drips out. i know my son is gettin more than plenty b/c he has gained 2 lbs since birth and the doc says i am doing great!
but am i just being impaitent when pumping or what... any pointers?

i had the same problem with my daughter, but do to personal reasons i gave up breast feeding without figuring out why pumping was so hard.

now a lot of people tell me (since i plan on breastfeeding again and longer) to buy a better pump, i didnt really have a good one i guess. and to massage my breast before pumping, i guess to get the milk start flowing....

...so i hope that helps a little cause that is what im gonna try :)

I had the same issue. Try pumping more often... you will start to produce more milk. I started doing it every hour, and though I wouldn't get hardly anything at times, after a week or two I had plenty. Best way to start, after your son has finished feeding, pump right away. your body will think that he is eating more, and will produce more.

if thats all ur getting when pumping for 20 mins then thats probably all baby is getting when he is feeding. it seems like very little, but if he's gaining weight then he's eating enough. i would just continute to pump the 1 oz u can and eventually u will start to produce more.. also, since ur feeding him as well as pumping its going to be a little difficult AT FIRST to get full bottles with pumping because ur breasts make what they need with little extra.

just keep doing what ur doing and eventually u will be pumping more in between feedings.. sounds like everything is going just fine... it just takes time :))

good luck and congrats on the new baby :)

You have to be relaxed or your milk wont let down. Thats why you're only getting just tiny bit. Nurse with your baby on your lap, or near you. Its even better if he's crying.

Personally, why complicate something good? Practice nursing at home, and soon enough you can do it out in public without anyone noticing. A good tip is to wear a stretchy tank under your shirt. Pull the top shirt up, and the tank down and voila! Youre completely covered.

i know i had a hard time getting milk to come out if i had the pump on straight but found that if i moved it around and angled it in different directions it would start flowing. i dont know if you have tried this but if not then give it a shot. i would push on my boobs also to help push the milk out. just keep trying, you'll be able to figure it out!
