I'm getting ready to turn my house into a rental property, will I have to update my fusebox to a circuit breaker?

Will the inspector make me replace the unit, or are fuseboxes still code?

Thanks.

You dont need to change anything to rent your house as long as it works

In Texas you simply put your house up for rent. There would be no inspection by anyone other than the renter.

The government does require that you have working smoke detectors and if the house is older than 1978 you would need to fill out a form that tells what you know about any lead based paint (this is required by the federal government).

There may be a lot of things required by your state or local government.

In most areas, your existing electrical service would be grandfathered, since it was at code when installed. However, you MAY have problems finding an insurer to cover this situation as a rental, since an electrical fire could be blamed on the inadequate service, and doubtless a substantial lawsuit would follow if a tenant incurred injury.

If you do have to update to circuit breakers, you going to have to do a lot of other electrical updating as well.

It will really depend on your county or city code requirements.

The answer will depend largely on the local code in the area you live. In most of Georgia, where I am, you would not have to do this. You may want to repost with your location.
