Most babies don't arrive on their due date, and if you're a first timer chances are you might go overdue a little.
Effacement or thinning of the cervix is usually a slow process and being at 30% is not that far along considering you have another 70% to go. With first babies, this process can drag on for weeks before you actually go into labor.
There's really no way to tell when you'll go into labor. Dilation and effacement are not reliable indicators at all since they can happen over a period of weeks, or a period of mere hours.
Other more reliable signs of impending labor are losing the entire mucus plug, having bloody show and your waters breaking or leaking.

Your cervix starts out about 4cm long, and slowly thins out (effaces) to the point where it is almost paper thin. Effacement of 30% is not very much.
But the good news is that it's not a reliable indicator of when labor could being. Sure, generally speaking, some women who are more effaced and dilated *might* go into labor sooner, but that's not always the case. Some women sit at 3cm dilated and 100% effaced and don't go into labor for weeks, while other women could be 1cm and 50% effaced and go into labor the next day. There's no telling.
First babies generally will come a bit late.

Only 5% of babies are born on their due date. Try not to think about the dates so much as taking care of yourself for the remainder of your pregnancy.
Labor can happen very quickly depending on your body, and how your body works, everyone is different. My mother in law went into labor and had all three of her children within an hour of starting contractions. I was induced and in labor for almost 24 hours with my first one, and I have some friends who were contracting for 2-3 days regularly before they could give birth because they weren't dilating at the expected rate.
It all depends on your body. Just get plenty of rest, drink lots of water, and daydream about your baby who will be here shortly.
Good luck and congratulations!

He means 30% effaced. Effacement is the thinning of the cervix. You could have your baby tomorrow or you could go over due. Labor can come on fast. Being 30% effaced doesn't guarantee anything. Relax and have a wonderful 10 days.

I think all my babies dropped by 38 weeks and I was dilated to a 2 by 39. Every woman and baby is different. Very rarely do women have their babies on the exact due date. It sounds like you have at least 2 more weeks.

30% means your cervix is 30% thinner - which is a good thing. In all actuality, it doesnt' really mean anything. I wasn't effaced (thinned) at all and was only 2 days overdue. My friend walked around for a month one centimeter dilated and 50% effaced.
No worries - it will happen when it happens!

that just means its 30% thinned out...when its fully thinned then you can start dialating. just because it doesnt seem like you are anywhere near labor yet doesnt mean it cant happen at any time. it can all happen very fast sometimes!
