I ve been divoriced for 10 years and there are 2 children in there teens and I think it would be best that maybe I use the same last name as them. So we dont loose contact! is this legall to do? Or do I need to go through the courts again to do so? During the divorice I had requested my maiden name be restored.

You can legally change your name to whatever you want. Just go to your local Social Security office. I don't know how much it would cost in your state though.

As long as you are over the age of 18 a person is allowed to change their name to what ever they so desire. This means completing and filing all paperwork related to a name change. Most states in the US have this online or readily available with the clerk of courts. As long as you have reached the age of majority, it is not difficult to accomplish although there will be fees involved.

Yes, and you'll probably feel a lot better about it now because the name isn't something that he "gave you" it's something that you went and got yourself so that you could be closer to your kids.
You do it just like you would a name change for something other than marriage or divorce. Go to the courthouse and file the papers, pay the fee and you'll have a new name!

Call your county probate judges office. Its quick and easy and costs about $20. They can give you the info you need over the phone. You can legally change your last name to any name you choose. Your ex has nothing to say about it.

Excuse Me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why would you do that I have a big problem with women who have gotten a divorce but they chose the option of keeping their married name WHY!!! It seems to me that they are still holding on to something let it all go!!! If I were ever to get a divorce I would want my name that I was born with when I leave a marriage I leave the NAME TOO!! Your children know who you are they won't forget you because of a name that you use to have I say NO WAY I don't think that it is possible to go back to your married name. My husband to be ex-wife is still walking around with his name why who knows when you can change it I think its stupid and confusing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Once you gave up his name, you gave it up for good. Unless, he gives you permission to get it back. Sorry. This is something you should have thought about prior to the divorce being final.
