Go to a different doctor...that amount of bleeding could be a sign of cervical or ovarian cancer. My mom had the same symptoms and was dismissed by countless doctors until I sent her to my gyno. My gyno immediately scheduled her for a full hysterectomy and found pre-cancerous cells...if my mom would have waited even another month, she would have had full blown cancer everywhere...GO NOW. Especially if you have other symptoms such as constipation or irregularity of bowel movements, bloating....

I would get a second opinion. I have a co-worker who is in her late thirties and had extremely heavy periods like that. She ended up having a kind of surgery that stopped the heavy bleeding. So do some research and definitely talk to a different doctor. Its probably not serious though.

my mum is 45 and she is havin the same problem now for bout 1 yr, she went 2 her doctor who checked 2 see if she was goin through the change and she wasnt, im nearly sure her doctor gave her tablets 2 try and ease her periods off, you should maybe ask about them, dont no nthe name sorry, so i would say it is normal and there is nothin wrong with you, my mum is tortured with it every month and she also gets bad cramps now which she never did get, im sure it can do no harm 2 try ur doc again and ask him about tablets or sumthin that cud help, hope u get it sorted xx

Talk to another doctor, if yours is a member of a group practice you can make an appointment with anyone you like. If your doctor is a solo practitioner then you can easily change doctors.
Another option is your nearest well woman clinic. they are not just for contraception.
If you are told again it isn't serious calmly and firmly point out it is serious to you and is restricting your life.

not normal! occasionally you can have a heavy bleed kind of like you described (a sort of clean out app... i had one and i sympathize!) but if this is a common thing then you need to worry i think. find a diff doc. one that will listen. it may be the start of menopause and the doc may be able to help this along therefore ending horrible period hell

I've had heavy periods my whole life, so I know how miserable it can be.
Thyroid problems can cause heavy periods, so if that runs in your family I would have your thyroid levels checked.
However, it's mostlikely due to hormonal changes caused by menopause/premenopause. I would trust your doctor, as it's very common. But, if it still continues to cause you worry, there's no harm in getting a second opinion.

yes! You know your body better than a doctor, you know when some thing isn't right.
A mechanic works on cars, a doc on humans....... most people will drive to the other side of town to get a second opinion on there car? Why not on your body?

my mum had really heavy periods like this when she was around your age. i think you should speak to another dr, as it is not right for you to be suffering like this. it is horrible to be worrying all the time, perhaps if you consulted a female dr she may be more sympathetic? i cannot remember what my mum did or what the dr said to her but she did have blod tests and had to have iron injections because she became severely anaemic due to high blood loss.

Are you on hormones, by any chance? I had that problem, but only after the doctor put me on hormones, which I didn't need. I then had to have a D&C, stopped the hormones, and no more problems.
