Sorry, wrong.
"The push is being treated as minor assault, which transforms a misdemeanor shoplifting charge to a strong-armed robbery with a potential prison term of five to 15 years. Because he has a criminal history, prosecutors say they could seek 30 years."
Maybe this genius needs to be in prison for a good long time. He has proved he can not play well with others.

For the doughnut theif- Look, it was only 52 cents. Did you really have to go and steal it? If you were that desperate for a doughtnut then you have bigger problems.
For the police- He has commited a crime before, so arrest him now, protect the children. (Or some crud like that.)
Against Doughnut theif- He has commited a crime before, so he'll do it again!
Against Police- It was a little shove, get over it. A REAL stronghold type of crime would be if somebody had gotten beat up so bad they had to go to the hospital. Not to mention you're making a mountain out of a molehill.
As you can see, I have multiple personality issues.

Strong arm robbery is a heavy charge for such a petty crime BUT I take it the perpitrator has a LONG history of violent crime and substance abuse.
Maybe this time all he stole was a doughnut perhaps the next time it'll be some old lady's purse. The man got what he deserved.

people suck.
but seriously, why not? make an example of him.
it doesn't matter the value of the item stolen, the fact is he took it. as far as the assault goes.. i think the clerk is just pissy because someone stole on her watch and no one would listen to her cry if it wasn't worse than a donut. the alleged "shove" is a ploy for attention.

I hope that was the best doughnut he ever had because he is going to pay a high price for it.

Trumped up B.S. is what this is. Sure, the guy might be a habitual criminal, but stealing a donut and shoving someone is still just "stealing a donut and shoving someone."
Calling it "strong-armed robbery" and talk about "30 years" is just stupid and only illustrates how out-of-control our legislators have been during the past few decades.

Wow, aren't there more dangerous criminals the system should be worried about. And people wonder why the prison system is over populated.
If I was the clerk I would have let him go. I am sure I could have found the change in my ashtray.

I say lock the loser up for life. If he is THAT stupid, he doesn't deserve to be in free society.
It's just a shame we can't just euthanize these losers. The world would be better off if we could put a little bleach in the gene pool to clean out the scum.

The guy is guilty of assault. You or I would go to jail for this too. Get over it.

Well if he didn't steal, he would not be facing this question. Your sin always takes you farther than where you want to go.
