He also has made a huge show, several times of touring the huge areas over several states, damaged in hurricane katrina. (yes, new orleans is the least of the katrina damage), but nothing has come of it, yet, except the government did a lot of bulldozing where houses were. Still no help in rebuilding, that's all local.
So, no, he is as falsely interested in that as our soldiers health and their families suffering for his and chaney's private war.

When the white house announced that it was "premature" to think of a visit on Tuesday, there was a huge public outcry against Bush. They quickly ammended their tune and decided to come on Thursday.
Bush can't do anything without getting raked over the coals, because as soon as they announced he'd come, everyone was pissed that he's gonna come get in the way. I am by NO means a supporter of him, but really, this is getting ridiculous. He SHOULD be here. This is a huge emergency, and if the President didn't come, it'd seem like he didn't see it as such.
Also, side point.. someone mentioned reparing the ecological damage. If you were a SoCal native, you'd know that sort of damage will repair itself very quickly. Forest fires are a natural part of this region.. and much of the plantlife that got razed is seasonal growth that comes back every year.

This is merely one of the duties any U.S. President has, it doesn't matter that it was G.W.B. or Tinkerbelle. It is part of his job to be where disaster strikes and begin to decide how much the government is going to help these people, if at all.
Personally I would have a difficult time using tax payers money to aid in this situation. The California fires are an annual event...if you're idiotic enough to build a home right in the middle of it, or on an earthquake fault-line, I think you should be responsible for paying for the damage to your home, if destroyed. The trees or eco-damage, on the other hand, would be in our best interests to replace.
I'm certainly no fan of this wimp, but I wouldn't wish to see his house burn down or yours, for that matter! It's a devastating experience. Just this morning they found the bodies of two people who were, in all probability, trapped in their home at the time or didn't see the glow in the distance!

No need to be so angry. The president just shows up to give support. Support could run in the millions of dollars.

Houses burn to the ground..that is a fact...cold and hard. Losing everything. Showing support for our Firefighters and Police and National Guard and all those whom have and will continue to help in this Disaster is what his presence is doing here. It's our DAY 4 of Evac and I want to go home....My family is great...but, home is home....!!! Thanks to our Gov Arnold, and President Bush..and Our Mayor of San Diego...for doing their jobs. Firefighters....Ground Crews, etc...Your Tops.....

He was not there to watch the houses burn down, he was there to show that the nation is helping California. He is being diplomatic and showing his support and appreciation to the firefighters and Governor.

Even though I am NOT a fan of bush, it was logical for him to see the amount of damage done. I don't think he was having a tour for entertainment reasons.

He could have been one more Bush gone up in flames.
After the New Orleans disaster he has to look like he cares (which I'm sure he does by the way) but to look like they care politicians have to go to the disaster area and look concerned. Gordo Brown did the same when large parts of the UK flooded big time. Personally I'd have preferred to see the Queen, I thought that was her kind of gig, but there you go.
