made in england - Do you honestly believe there is no North/South divide?
I wonder if you would still believe it if you lived up here. Look at the rest of the answers, are they all lying as well?
Olympics being spread around the country! - well yes. perhaps we will get the odd one or two lowly football matches but tht's about it, now who do you think will get the use of, and benefit of, the olympic village and infrastructure?
Oh yes, that'll be the south, I could I suppose at a push, pop down to London after work on a night and use one of the gynmnasiums for an hour, nope, wouldn't get back in time for Coronation street would I?

"most southerners dont vote for the labour party"
Then who voted them in three times?
Oh it must have just been us northerners who voted them in whilst you in the south stayed at home on voteing day with your cheese and wine parties.
Wakey wakey

Yes, everyone will se the olympics (though most of us would have to watch on TV or pay fortune to travel and stay in london), but only London will benefit from the olympics.
I honestly believe londoners should fund it directly by taxation. I dont want my lottery payments going to London or anywhere else that is benefitting from the olympics.
Coe and his cohorts wanted te olympics so badly, let them lot pay for it. The estimated cost will at least quadruple before it begins and I want no part of it.
Lets keep Londons Olympics for London and let them pay for it.

Yes.

What about the billions they'll be asking for us to bail out the London tube system while our public transport goes to pot?

And remember when Hull was flooded - no help but when it happened down South - it was a National emergency all of a sudden!

It's too simplistic to talk about a 'north - south divide'. There are variations throughout the country. Margate in kent is one of the most deprived areas in the uk. And don't think that people down south are all cold hearted robots. If you go to some of the villages in the north downs you'll see that they're not.

In 1992, as a student nurse, I was taught about the Black Report of 1980, which had been commissioned by the government to investigate the North South inequalities in health. It was the first report on the subject. There has been no improvement at all in reducing this divide since the publication of the report.

I am in the N/E and we have lost all our funding. At one point, I used to go to the library, at the bottom of my street, for my college course, then I had to get two buses. Now the funding has stopped altogether for open access. I would have to go to a structured class, on one day from 6 - 9, which is miles away, don't even know where it is. When I spoke to someone from the college, they admitted, that the money had went to immigrants. I have completed 1/3 of a course, which has cost me £50, with another £150 to go. But I cannot do it. so I have lost £50. They said they were going to put more into education. You show me where.

yes
but it might surprise you were it is

apparently it starts at around Scunthorpe and zigzags down the country

Worcester is now in the north.......

apparently north /south is not geographical it is economic

I'm well confused as i live in what was the midlands and don't know if I'm now a northerner or a southerner.......

EDIT
i have some friends who really do believe that anywhere north of watford is north but one was a little confused and thought it started at watford gap - i suppose she was closer (if a little thick)
there is sooooo much snobbery about living in the south ...

the olympics is not just for london. its for the whole country. different events are held in various places over the whole of england. if there is a north /south divide its because people like you have made it that way. your question has just proved that. where i live in the south, we are almost cut off from the world for want of a decent bridge. the government said no
edit. stephen. i didnt say there wasnt a divide. i said you made it. do you really believe we got more down here than you do? dorset gets very low government funding. we get less for education than most other counties.maybe we are in a better environment but thats because most southerners dont vote for the labour party.

Anything North of Watford Gap is North, the rest Is South which will soon all be concreted over, while you drive on the hard shoulder to get anywhere.

of course there is, you'd have to be extremely nieve or stupid to think otherwise wouldnt you?! look at the millenium project! a project for the whole nation! oh sorry, you live up north and have to spend £80 by train to enjoy it? yeah sorry about that, but we'll be sure to use your taxes tho, the north is forgotten, until its time to screw money out of us. joan r hits it right on the button. i live just south of hull in grimsby and thankfully the flooding wasnt so bad, but even so, we suffered, but then we're asked to donate because the south was flooding!!!! we still have people living out of boxes in caravans in their gardens whilst their house is drying out!!! sure its the same down south but why is it more important down there? cos the houses are worth more money.
