I'm a freelancer for a local paper. My latest piece, an interview, was published with many factual errors, which I think she could have avoided if she had checked with me for clarification. Instead, the piece just went straight to print. Should I tell her about those errors, with a request for her to check with me next time? (This is not the first time, but this has been the worst.) Also, what should I tell my interviewee? Should I apologize for the errors and tell her it was my editor's fault?

Let me get this straight: you wrote up an interview, the editor added many factual errors, and then published it?

I'd go berserk. Then I'd complain. Loudly. Especially if it happened before.

The editor has to go over a story with the writer in a situation like that. Mistakes happen in the editing process, but that seems way over the line. An apology to the interviewee is definitely in line.
