All banks have a cut off time in order to get their transactions processed for the day. Sometimes it's 4:00, others it could be 2:00. If you use your atm/debit card after that time, it won't be processed until the next business day. Just like, if you were to use the card over the weekend, it won't actually post and be processed until that Monday. However, all banks have different procedures as far as holding items and things, but that is usually the way things work. If it is after the cut off time, it is processed on the next business day.

It may depend on your bank and whether you are using one of their ATMs, but my bank has always processed the next day or more likely at midnight that same day. ie, 7pm Friday ATM transaction shows posted on Saturday morning.

Any withdraws from the ATM or uses of the debit card go thru the bank immediately.
