I recently started a resturaunt in california and I just want to make sure that the employee I hire is a christian, I was thinking of asking him a quesiton "if you were to sit at a table with a major religeous figure who would it be" and If they said jesus then they are christian, the last resturaunt I started I hired an atheist belive in that whole "freedom of religeon thing" the guy had no morals and kept promising to do stuff that he didnt do, so I had to let him go, then I tried to hire another one and the same thing happens, atheist can lie and make promises without no regret or fear of going to hell, look I just want to hire a christian without breaking federal law, I dont care if it seems racist, I honestly don't care, I just want to know if he is a christian without being arrested for discrimination, how do I do this?

You can't be arrested for discrimination, but you are bucking for a major lawsuit. What you are asking is a patently illegal question. Why do you insist on hiring a Christian? Do you think that Christians have more moral values than everyone else? Don;t you really want to hire someone who has ethics rather than morals?

You should keep your petty prejudices to yourself or you are setting yourself up to lose your house.

You can't it's illegal. And if you get caught, you'll at the very least spend multi-thousands of dollars to defend yourself.

And since when does being a Christian insure that a person is honest? The Dalai Lama isn't Christian, are you then asserting that the Dalai Lama is a bad person?

On the other hand, let's look at Chritianity. Let's talk about the Crusdes, where people were slaughtered, women and children alike, women raped, cities burned.

Let's talk about Christians like Benny Hinn and his ilk, whose only attachment is to money.

Let's talk about George Bush, who lied to start a war, thus causing the death of hundreds of thousands of innocent people....oh that's right, those people aren't Christians, so it's OK.

If I were hiring people for a business, I might consider barring Christians for the reasons I have asserted above. And I might ask you if discriminating against people on the basis of religion is in any way Christ -like.

You can't, any attempt to base your hiring decision on the religious beliefs of the applicant is illegal. Why would that be more important to you than their qualifications? Having been a lifelong christian, I can tell you that attending church in no way gaurantees that you'll be a good or honest person.

Pay more attention to how they handle difficult questions during the interview, and what their employment history says about them, and you'll be more likely to find an honest employee.

You won't be arrested for discriminating practices in hiring, but you will be fined and then sued. It's not okay to do, and it's not what Jesus would ask of you. Turn away from this bad idea. Anybody can pay lip service to Christ- but that won't tell you what's in their hearts.

The only way -- the ONLY way -- you could EVER be allowed to ask a question like this without legal penalty is if you can prove beyond any doubt that being an atheist would make someone less able to perform the job.

And that's something that's really only going to fly if you're running a church or something directly involved with religion. A restaurant doesn't count. So basically you're SOL.

you can't. you should probably be arrested for just asking this question. just because you ask someone a question like that in an interview doesn't mean they are going to tell you anything other than what they know you want to hear.
and you can't judge someone by their religion. not every christian on the face of this earth is perfect and fears God.
and most atheists aren't lacking in their morals. i'm a christian and if i thought you were a jerk boss (which you sound like you are) i wouldn't give a crap about doing my job well either.

You can't legally do it without breaking the law. That is because doing it IS breaking the law. If you hire or do not hire someone just because of their religion, THAT is a greater violation than asking questions for that purpose.

And frankly, do you really believe that nobody who is not Christian has good moral standards and that everyone who is Christian does not? There are any number of examples of morally bankrupt Christians and saintly non-Christians, you know.

What a truly ignorant question. Christianty does not equal morality. My husband is athiest, I am agnostic. We both grew up in very religious christian households. I have a few christian relatives who are wife beaters and child molestors. They all claim to be children of god which is pretty hippocritical. His christian/catholic relatives & parents were abusive mentally and physically. We on the other hand have never laid a hand on each other (or anyone else for that matter) and consider ourselves honest and moral people. We don't persecute people for what they believe in, and we don't force our beliefs on others. I don't wish you ill will, but with your attitude and mindset, I truly expect your business to fail. Good luck and I hope these answers open your mind a bit, however I don't have much faith in that with this type of question.

You are an obsolte racist boob. There are many good people out there and they are not all christians. Maybe you should move to Texas where every word out of people's mouths is about how religious they are and that they are christians -- these people are the ones who are like an alley cat -- they do immoral things you just can't catch them.
Get real man / you need to judge people on their own merit.

Who are you to judge. A good Christian does not judge - is this not what you should be thinking. I hope you don't only serve food to christins because you will go out of business.

I cannot stand ignorance! read a book or something!

From my church homes attitude many rules handle a non secular meaning as God continuously willed the actual regulation might handle a non secular meaning. We as human beings first mandatory the actual to later understand religious meanings in the back of the regulation. needless to say even in spite of the undeniable fact that i be conscious of my Church to be the genuine Church based by utilising Christ it is not what human beings think of of as mainstream and consequently no longer an answer you will get from the mainstream maximum probable. My Church obeys the coolest purchase of the recent Covenant of which the old Covenant is a shadow and replica. when you consider that Sabbath is in the old Covenant it would desire to have a sparkling Covenant counterpart 7 feasts in thrice is in old Covenant it would desire to have New Covenant counterpart Sacrifice cases, third and seventh day for cleansing whilst touching ineffective bodies, regulations against idols, regulations approximately cleanliness, regulations approximately adultery, so on etc. by utilising the way the regulations approximately nutrition in the recent Covenant are in Acts and Hebrews.

Are you saying the Christians are incapable of telling lies? I got news for you I have not met a christian yet that has never lied or never will lie. Morals come from the person not from their religion. and its not racist to hire someone or not hire someone based on their religious beliefs. And you can not base your hiring process on someones religion no matter your reasoning its illegal and immoral.
