No real man would ramble on about such tripe unless he were a weak and spineless jellyfish whose so neutered in life that all he can do is piss and moan about this woman.

I think he's hurt or embarrassed by whoever he said that about. (I assume by the last sentence you're either talking about his ex-wife (girlfriend), mother or mother-in-law) He is also not over that hurt, it still is bothering him or he would be indifferent to her.
