I do night fill in a supermarket 2 nights a week, Ive worked there for 7 yrs now. The boss went away this week and left me in charge, the only problem is that im the youngest there (22). One woman is new and doesnt like me explaining anything to her, I think it is the age thing. Anyways, 3 times tonight someone tryed to break into the centre by breaking the glass, when it was nearly home time about 4 of them lifted up the rollar door of the shop to go have a look at the glass,I asked them all to come inside so I could close off that area because it was unsafe and the people could have still been out there and I didnt want them getting into the shop. She gave me a dirty look and started saying she was worried about her car, wich was parked around the other side of the centre no where near the broken window. Would you have said the same to keep everyone and the shop safe in you were left in charge? Would you have a problem with someone younger that you being in charge for the night?

Whoever is in charge is in charge--because of the safety issue you were correct... obviously she has a problem.. if you were in charge, you might want to discuss it with your boss...

I myself am 28.....and have had to manage people older than me. It is always a problem and I'm not sure why. I would have done the same thing as you. And you should definitly report that to your boss just as an FYI. Nothing will happen, but at least he will be aware of the situation. People like the ones that are giving you problems, will never change because it is a mind set. Stick to your guns! Be tough! And don't doubt yourself. Your boss picked you for a reason!
Good luck :)

Child, age has nothin to do wit the challenge. You forst should have called da police. After all was done, I would write that woman up and report her to your supervisor. This would show you are professional in your work and save any problems in the future. Smile a bit an enjoy yo life. Things will work out.

You did the right thing. Don't worry about the older people. Your boss left you in charge for a reason. He knows that you will be responsible and that's what matters.
