Covalent bonds of atoms of the same electronegativity form nonpolar bonds: H-H, F-F

Covalent bonds of atoms of different electronegativities form polar bonds: H2O, HCl

Atoms which have donated and accepted electron(s) are linked by ionic bonds.

Linus Pauling worked out a whole spectrum of nonpolar-polar-ionic bonds in which he calculated the % ionicity and the % covalency according to electrongegativity differences.
