Well, your teacher is probably not expecting a chemistry report.

So your best approach would be the modern & historical effects of explosives on civilization.

From bombs & bullets, to construction, mining & space travel.

Explosives have been making a difference for quite a while.

Look up the phrase: Hoisted by your own petard.
OR
Remember, remember the 5th of November.

There is also a great History Channel show on "The History of Explosives" but I don't know how you'd get is by tonight.
