Shouldn't we handle Iran in a similar fashion, especially since lying to the infidel is an encouraged practice?

Yes and no.

Iran is a different issue. It requires different tactics.

North Korea is run by a spoiled self centered brat in the midst of a midlife crisis- he has no clear objective, other than making himself look good to the rest of the world.

Iran is run by a man who hates anything that has to do with the western world, a man who tells blatant lies. Not to mention the fact that Russia has always been an ally with Iran- not so with N korea.

Its a quagmire of ego out there.

North Korea has been brought to the table in regular intervals, every time they need money and food. It cost us tax payers most likely several billions for Bush's promo game and will get nobody anywhere, same old.

N. Korea's track record would tend to imply that they take 'talks' seriously only while talking. As soon as it suits them, they'll be back to thier old tricks.
