1 - Take your bill to a local coin dealer (trustworthy ones can be found - shop around). It never hurts to get a second opinion. They will be able to tell you so much more by evaluation the condition of the bill. They will also know the amount printed and what it is going for in today's market.

The value is $3 in grade very fine, $5 in grade extra fine. This is what is called a trends value and is an average of what the note sells for from a dealer. They pay 40% or more, less.

mint condition a silver certificate is worth about $2000 american to a collecter
in ok conditon its about 900

You can have a coin shop appraise it for you, but depending on its grading is what it's worth.
The longer you have on to it the more it's worth.
